Solar and battery installation in Caloundra and across the Sunshine Coast, designed and installed by an SAA accredited team and signed off by a licensed Queensland electrician. We fit tier-1 panels, hybrid inverters and home batteries from brands like Tesla, BYD, Fox ESS, GoodWe and SolaX, sizing each system to your real usage rather than the biggest battery a rebate allows. With over 500 systems installed, we handle the STC and federal battery rebate paperwork, the grid connection and any switchboard work, so you get a compliant, coastal-ready system without the surprises.

Take Control of Your Energy Costs
Queensland has over 300 days of sunshine per year. Electricity costs have risen significantly over the past decade, and they show no signs of slowing down. Solar gives you the power to take control of your energy costs, reduce your reliance on the grid, and protect yourself from future price rises.
Government rebates through the Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme are still available, but they reduce each year. Now is the best time to lock in maximum savings before rebate values drop further.
STC Rebates Still Available
The Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) rebate reduces the upfront cost of a new solar system. The rebate value depends on system size, zone and the current STC price, and reduces each year, so getting quoted sooner locks in the higher value.
Get a Quote →Rebate-Ready Battery Systems
The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (active from 1 July 2025) reduces the upfront cost of new home battery systems via STC-style certificates. The exact reduction depends on usable battery capacity, the current certificate price, and the installation meeting all current standards.
A rebate-eligible battery has to be designed and signed off by an installer holding SAA battery accreditation, a separate class to solar. We hold both under accreditation S6093214, and every system is installed to AS/NZS 5139 by a licensed electrician. We handle the paperwork and design the system around your real usage, not just the biggest battery the rebate allows.
Sizing matters
An oversized battery rarely pays back faster. It just costs more up-front. We size to your actual evening load and export profile.
Eligibility checks
Switchboard condition, inverter compatibility, and existing solar setup all affect what’s eligible. We assess this before quoting.
Standards compliance
All work meets AS/NZS 3000, 5033 and 5139, plus the SAA installation guidelines required for rebate sign-off.
Whole-Home Backup vs Essential Circuits
Battery “backup” means different things depending on how it’s wired. We explain the trade-offs before you commit to a system.
Whole-home backup
Runs your entire switchboard during a grid outage. Depends on inverter continuous output, switchboard condition, load management and correct changeover setup. Best suited to homes with manageable peak loads or smart load control.
- • Larger inverter / battery capacity required
- • Switchboard typically needs upgrading
- • Load shedding or smart circuits often needed
- • Higher upfront cost, fuller blackout coverage
Essential-circuit backup
Runs only nominated circuits (fridge, lights, internet, comms) during an outage. Usually simpler and cheaper to retrofit, with a dedicated backup sub-board that isolates protected circuits from the rest of the house.
- • Smaller inverter / battery sufficient
- • Backup sub-board added to switchboard
- • Aircon, oven, EV charging typically excluded
- • Lower cost, targeted resilience

Blackout backup is the part that depends on your switchboard. Every circuit the battery backs up during an outage must have a Type A RCBO, so whole home backup means the whole board, while essential circuit backup means only those circuits. Add spare capacity for the new isolators, compliant labelling and correct backup circuit separation, and we assess all of it before quoting so the system is safe, compliant and practical, not patched in on top of an old board that won't handle it.
If your switchboard is undersized, has ceramic fuses, or needs Type A RCBOs for the backup you have chosen, we'll flag it during the quote and price the upgrade up-front. No surprise variations on install day.
What we check before quoting
- →Main switch and busbar rating vs total load + new battery/inverter draw
- →Type A RCBO protection on every circuit the battery will back up in a blackout, per AS/NZS 4777.1 and AS/NZS 3000
- →Space for solar isolators, battery isolators and labelling
- →Backup circuit separation: what runs during a grid outage and what doesn't
- →Earthing and bonding compliance with current standards
- →Compliant labelling and shutdown procedure documentation

Solar and Battery Questions
Straight answers on rebates, battery backup, switchboards and coastal installs, from the contractor doing the work.
Do I still get a rebate on solar and batteries?
Yes, both are still available. New solar systems are discounted up front through the Small-scale Technology Certificate (STC) scheme, and new home batteries are discounted through the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program. The exact amount depends on system size, your zone, usable battery capacity and the current certificate price, and the solar STC value reduces each year, so getting quoted sooner locks in a higher value. We handle all the rebate paperwork.
Do I need a battery, or is solar on its own enough?
Solar on its own still cuts your daytime power bills and is the cheaper place to start. A battery adds value if you use a lot of power in the evening or want backup during outages, by storing your excess daytime generation instead of exporting it cheaply. We size the system to your real usage and tell you honestly whether a battery pays its way for your household, rather than just selling you the biggest one the rebate allows.
Will my battery keep the power on during a blackout?
Only if the system is set up for backup, and how much it runs depends on how it is wired. Whole-home backup runs your entire switchboard but needs a larger inverter and battery and usually a switchboard upgrade. Essential-circuit backup is simpler and cheaper and runs only nominated circuits like the fridge, lights and internet, with aircon, oven and EV charging typically left off. We explain both trade-offs before you commit, because not every solar or battery system includes blackout backup by default.
Does my switchboard need upgrading for solar and battery?
Not automatically, and we confirm it before quoting rather than on install day. A battery that simply stores your solar and offsets your bills needs no safety switch upgrade, whatever your existing board has. Two things do trigger board work. The first is blackout backup: when the battery runs your home during an outage it becomes the supply for those circuits, so every circuit it backs up must have a Type A RCBO. Whole home backup means the whole board, essential circuit backup means only those circuits. The second is the board itself, such as ceramic fuses, an undersized main switch, or no spare space for the new isolators and protection. We check both, and price any upgrade up front so there are no surprise variations once we start.
How long does a solar and battery installation take?
A typical home solar install is completed in a single day. Adding a battery or any switchboard upgrade can extend that, and we confirm the timeframe in your quote before we begin. After the install we handle the grid connection paperwork and approvals, so the only thing you do is switch it on.
Are solar panels and batteries suitable for coastal Caloundra homes?
Yes, and the salt air on the Sunshine Coast is exactly why component choice and mounting matter. Coastal and marine conditions are harder on rooftop fixings, isolators and enclosures, so we select tier-1 panels and corrosion-rated mounting suited to your site and install to current standards. Being based on the Sunshine Coast means we know how these systems hold up here and we back the workmanship for the full warranty.
Can I add an EV charger to my solar and battery system?
Yes, and doing it at the same time is the most cost-effective approach. One switchboard assessment and one visit covers both, and a solar-aware charger can top up your car from excess daytime generation instead of the grid. You can see the full detail on our EV charger installation page.
Can I finance a solar and battery system?
Yes, we offer finance through the Brighte Green Loan, so you can spread the cost rather than pay it all up front. Brighte's published figures are a 7-year term from 9.49% p.a. (comparison rate 10.98% p.a.). We can talk you through repayments alongside your quote so you can see the full picture before deciding.
