Nuvolt Electrical Solutions repairs and services Fox ESS inverters and batteries that another company installed, on the Sunshine Coast and the north side of Brisbane: batteries that will not charge, monitoring showing the wrong figures, backup that failed in a blackout, and warranty claims where the installer has closed down. We are SAA accredited for solar and battery work (S6093214) and install Fox ESS ourselves.

Fox ESS makes good equipment at a sharp price, which is exactly why so much of it has gone onto Queensland walls since the federal battery rebate started. That same sharp price attracts installers who win the job on cost and make it back on speed. The result is a lot of garages with a perfectly good battery and a poor installation around it: cable left exposed, labels missing, backup wired without its own protection, monitoring that was never set up. Most of the time the gear is not the problem. The install is. This page is about that work: finding what is wrong with a Fox ESS system somebody else fitted, fixing it properly, and giving you a straight written account of what we found.

What We Fix

The Gear Is Usually Fine. The Install Is Not.

Six reasons people ring us about a Fox ESS system we did not install, and what we do about each one.

A battery that is not doing its job

Sitting on the same percentage for days, not charging off the solar, not discharging at night, or a fault message on the inverter screen. We test rather than guess: the communication between the inverter and the battery, the metering, the settings and the connections, in that order, until we have the actual cause and not the convenient one.

An app that shows nonsense

House use that cannot be right, solar that appears to flow backwards, a battery charging from the grid in the middle of a sunny day, or an app that has been offline since the week it went in. It usually comes back to the metering: a sensor in the wrong spot or the wrong way around, or a setting that was never switched on. It is a small fix, and until it is done the battery is making its decisions on bad information.

Backup that did not work in the blackout

The most common disappointment of the lot. Either backup was never part of the install, because a battery on its own does not keep the lights on, or it was wired in without what it needs to work safely. We tell you which one you have, prove it by test rather than by assumption, and quote what it takes to get the circuits you care about running in an outage.

An install that does not look right

Cable lying loose behind the battery, covers missing, labels written in marker pen, a stack propped on loose bricks, a switchboard door that no longer shuts. If it looks rushed it usually was. We go through it against the wiring rules, the battery standard and Fox's own installation manual, and we fix what needs fixing.

An installer you cannot get hold of

Gone quiet, gone interstate or gone broke. A Fox ESS warranty claim is normally lodged by the installer, not by the owner, which is a problem when there is no installer. Fox's Australian warranty terms let an owner appoint a local installer to step in where the original one has gone into administration or insolvency. We can be that installer.

Adding to a system someone else fitted

More battery modules, a Fox ESS EV charger, backup circuits or more panels on a system we did not install. We check what is already there before we connect anything to it, because the new work is only as good as the install it joins.

The Check

What We Go Through

On a Fox ESS system we did not install, this is the list. It is the same list we hold our own installs to:

  • Battery and inverter cabling: fixed in place, protected from damage, and the right cable for the job
  • Isolation and protection: every switch and breaker the system needs, correctly rated and where it has to be
  • Backup circuits, where backup is fitted: their own protection, the right safety switches, and proven by test
  • Metering sensors: position, direction and the matching settings in the inverter
  • Total inverter capacity and settings against what your Energex connection approval allows
  • The battery itself: its base and fixing, its clearances and where it has been put
  • Signs and labels at the switchboard, the meter box and the battery, including the shutdown procedure
  • Monitoring online, and the system registered with Fox ESS for its warranty
  • A written report with photos: what is fine, what we fixed and what can wait

Dealing directly with a licensed contractor (Lic# 92489), not a call centre or a commission salesperson.

This is not a page about a bad product

Fox ESS is on more of our installs than any other brand, and we would not fit it if we did not rate it. What has happened is volume. The federal rebate put more than a quarter of a million home batteries in across Australia, and when the Clean Energy Regulator inspected 1,278 of them between July 2025 and April 2026 it rated 60.8 percent substandard and 1.2 percent unsafe, across every brand. Most of that was labelling. The rest was wiring. Popular, well priced equipment gets more than its share of rushed installs, and the badge on the front wears the blame for work the manufacturer had nothing to do with.

If your installer has gone

Fox's Australian warranty terms say a claim is made by the installer or by Fox's own people, not by the owner direct. Where the original installer has gone into administration or insolvency, the same terms let the owner appoint a local installer, at the owner's cost, to do what the original installer would have done. Two honest limits. The decision on any claim is Fox's, never ours. And Fox's terms do not cover damage caused by improper installation, which is one more reason to have a poor install put right before it costs you a battery.

Please do not open it up

A home battery holds energy even when the grid is off and the inverter is shut down. By law, electrical work on a battery system, including moving cables or changing wiring, must be done by a licensed electrician. Do not remove covers or touch the wiring. Take photos from where you stand, write down what the screen says, and leave the rest to us.

FAQ

Fox ESS Repair Questions

The questions people ask when a Fox ESS system is not right and the company that fitted it is no help.

Can you work on a Fox ESS system another company installed?

Yes. We are a licensed Queensland electrical contractor (Lic# 92489) and an accredited solar and battery installer, and Fox ESS is the brand we fit most. We test and certify the work we carry out. We do not become responsible for the parts of the original install we did not touch, and the written report tells you plainly which is which. If we find something unsafe outside that work, we tell you in writing, and we will not switch back on anything we believe is dangerous.

Should I go back to the original installer first?

If they are still trading and will come, yes. The install is their work and putting it right is their job, at their cost, and they are also the party Fox expects a warranty claim to come through. Put the problem to them in writing and keep a copy. If they will not come, cannot be found, or you no longer trust the work, that is where we come in.

My installer has closed down. Is my Fox ESS warranty gone?

No. The manufacturer's warranty on the equipment is Fox's, and it does not disappear with the installer. What you lose is the installer's own workmanship warranty and the party who would normally lodge a claim for you. Fox's Australian terms allow an owner to appoint a local installer in that situation. Have your invoice, the serial numbers and any registration confirmation ready, because the first thing we check is whether the system was ever registered with Fox.

Why did my Fox ESS battery not work in the blackout?

Almost always for one of two reasons. Backup was never installed, because a battery stores energy but does not run your house in an outage without extra equipment and switchboard work. Or backup was installed but not finished properly, so it trips, covers the wrong circuits or never switches over. We test it with the grid supply off and tell you which it is.

Why does my Fox ESS app show the wrong numbers?

Usually the metering. The inverter relies on a sensor at the switchboard to see what the house is drawing and what is going back to the grid. If that sensor is on the wrong cable, facing the wrong way or not enabled in the settings, every figure downstream of it is wrong, and the battery charges and discharges at the wrong times as a result. It is a common fault and a small fix.

Will having you fix it affect my warranty?

Fox's terms exclude defects caused by improper or non-compliant installation and by installation from a non-accredited installer. Having a poor install corrected by an accredited installer, in line with Fox's manual, works for your warranty position rather than against it. The decision on any claim always rests with Fox, and we will never tell you otherwise.

What does it cost to fix a Fox ESS system?

It depends on what is wrong, which is why we look before we price. A metering or settings fault is a short visit. Redoing cable runs or wiring backup properly is a bigger job and is quoted in writing first.

Do you service Fox ESS systems in north Brisbane?

Yes. We cover the Sunshine Coast and hinterland, and the north side of Brisbane, including Caboolture, Morayfield, Burpengary, North Lakes, Redcliffe, Strathpine, Chermside and Aspley. Send photos first, so we can tell you what the visit is likely to involve before anyone travels.

Do you only fix Fox ESS?

No. We also install and service GoodWe, Sigenergy, Sungrow and SolaX, and the same check applies to all of them. Fox ESS gets its own page because it is the system we are asked about most.

Is it safe to keep using my system in the meantime?

If it is simply underperforming, generally yes. If you can smell burning, see scorching or melted plastic, hear buzzing or crackling, or water has got into the equipment, keep clear of it, follow the shutdown procedure on the label beside the inverter if you can reach it safely, and call us on 0494 826 740. If there is smoke or fire, get out and call 000.
