Nuvolt Electrical Solutions does the electrical side of pools and spas across the Sunshine Coast, from Caloundra to Noosa and the hinterland: pump and heater circuits, heat pumps, pool lighting, timers and the equipotential bonding a new pool needs. The work is done by a licensed electrician (QLD Lic 92489) working from our Nambour workshop; plumbing, fencing and construction are for your pool builder.
Water makes electrical faults far more dangerous. Wet skin lowers the body's resistance, and Queensland's Electrical Safety Office warns that even a small voltage in or near water can cause drowning through loss of muscle control. That is why pool wiring and electrical equipment must be installed and maintained by a licensed electrician, and why pools come with their own rules on bonding, safety switches and keeping moisture out of equipment. Nuvolt does the electrical side of pools and spas across the Sunshine Coast: equipment circuits, bonding, pumps, heat pumps, lighting and timers. Plumbing, fencing and pool construction are not our work, and we say so plainly so you know who to call for what.
The Electrical Side of Your Pool
Whether it is a new pool, an equipment upgrade or an old setup that needs sorting out, we handle everything electrical from the switchboard to the equipment pad.
Pool equipment circuits
A dedicated circuit from the switchboard to the equipment area, with safety switch protection, isolation where the equipment needs it, and weatherproof outlets or hardwired connections to suit the gear. We size the circuit for everything it will carry, including the heater or heat pump you might add later, not just the pump.
Equipotential bonding
Bonding connects a concrete pool's reinforcing steel and nearby metal, such as ladders, handrails and in some cases metal fences, to the home's earthing so it all sits at the same electrical potential if a fault happens. On a new concrete pool it has to be installed and tested while the steel is still exposed, before the concrete is poured or sprayed, so we work to your pool builder's schedule.
Pumps, heaters and heat pumps
Pool pumps, chlorinators, the electrical supply to heater controls and electric heat pumps all need the right circuit. Heat pumps in particular can draw more current than a pump, so we check the circuit and switchboard capacity against the manufacturer's installation instructions before the unit arrives. Your pool shop or builder supplies and plumbs the equipment; we wire and connect it.
Pool lighting, timers and solar
Underwater lights, which must comply with the Australian wiring rules, plus lighting around the pool area and garden. We fit timers and controllers so the pump runs when it should, and if you have solar we can set the pump to run through the middle of the day on your own generation instead of overnight from the grid.
The Electrical Work We Handle
Pools involve several trades, and knowing who does what saves days of phone calls. This is the electrical side, which is ours:
- Circuits, safety switches, isolation and weatherproof outlets for pool and spa equipment
- Equipotential bonding of reinforcing steel and metal within reach of the water, tested before the pour
- Wiring and connecting pumps, chlorinators, heat pumps and the electrical side of heater controls
- Underwater and pool area lighting, timers and pump controllers
- Relocating power points, lights and other electrical equipment that would end up too close to a planned pool
- Testing and certifying the installation, and fault finding on existing pool circuits
Dealing directly with a licensed contractor (Lic# 92489), not a call centre or a commission salesperson.
Australian owned and operated. Local crew on the Sunshine Coast. No overseas call centres.

Plumbing, fencing and construction are not ours
We are electricians. Building the pool, excavation, concrete, pipework and plumbing in the pump and filter are work for your pool builder, pool shop or plumber. Pool fencing has its own safety rules, and your local council is the place to start on those. What we do is make sure the electrical side is safe, compliant and ready on the day the other trades need it, including bonding a metal fence where the wiring rules call for it.
Running the pool pump on solar
A pool pump is one of the bigger, steadier loads in a home, and it does not care what time of day it runs. If you have solar, moving the pump's run time into the middle of the day uses your own generation instead of imported power, often with nothing more than a timer change. A variable speed pump running longer at a lower speed can use less energy again. If you are weighing up a battery, the pool belongs in that sizing conversation too.

Pool & Spa Electrical Questions
Straight answers on pool bonding, equipment circuits, heat pumps, lighting and running the pump on solar, from the licensed contractor doing the work.
What is equipotential bonding and does my pool need it?
Equipotential bonding connects the steel reinforcing in a concrete pool and conductive metal near the water to the home's earthing system, so everything a swimmer can touch sits at the same electrical potential if a fault happens. The wiring rules set bonding requirements for conductive metal within arm's reach of the pool edge, which is 1.25 metres, and installing or altering bonding conductors is licensed electrical work. Concrete pools with steel reinforcing need it, and ladders, handrails and some metal fences near the water can too. We confirm what your pool needs from photos and your pool builder's plans.
When does the electrician need to be involved in a new pool?
Early, before the concrete. For a concrete pool the bonding has to be installed and tested while the reinforcing steel is still exposed, before the shell is poured or sprayed. Leaving a tail of steel or cable sticking out for the electrician to connect later is not a safe substitute, because the shell itself can no longer be tested. It also pays to talk to us at the planning stage if a switchboard, meter box, power points or lights would end up close to the new pool.
Can the pool pump plug into an ordinary power point?
Many pool pumps and chlorinators come with a plug, and an outdoor outlet on the right circuit is a normal way to connect them. That outlet needs to be weatherproof, positioned where it is allowed relative to the water, on a circuit that can carry the load, and protected by a safety switch. What does not belong near a pool is an extension lead feeding the equipment, which Queensland's Electrical Safety Office warns against outright, and a power board is no better.
Does a pool heat pump need its own circuit?
Often, yes. A heat pump can draw considerably more current than a pool pump, and the manufacturer's installation instructions set the circuit and protection it needs. Some smaller units can share an existing pool circuit with capacity to spare, while larger ones need their own. We check the unit's specifications, the existing circuit and the switchboard before it is delivered, so installing it is a connection job rather than a discovery.
How do I run my pool pump on solar?
The simplest way is moving the pump's timer so it runs through the sunniest part of the day, when your panels are producing. Most households can do that with the existing timer or a better one. From there, a smarter controller can run the pump around your solar output, and a variable speed pump running longer at a lower speed can use less energy again. If you have a battery or are considering one, include the pool in the sizing so the battery is not emptied running a pump at night.
The pool water tingles, or someone felt a shock near the pool. What should I do?
Treat it as urgent. Get everyone out of the water and away from the pool, without touching the pool equipment, metal fittings, the switchboard or the meter box. If someone is still being shocked, do not touch them and call 000. Then call Energex on 13 19 62, 24 hours a day, which is what Queensland's Electrical Safety Office advises after any shock or tingle. They make the property safe. Anyone who felt a shock should get medical advice, even if they feel fine. A tingle can come from faulty equipment, a failed bonding connection or an earthing problem, and once it is safe we can find and fix the fault on 0494 826 740.
Do you install spas?
We do the electrical side. A plug in spa needs a suitable outdoor outlet on a circuit that can carry it, with safety switch protection, and many larger spas and swim spas are hardwired on a dedicated circuit as their manufacturer specifies. We check the switchboard capacity, run the circuit and connect the spa. Delivery, placement, the base it sits on and any plumbing are for the spa supplier or your builder.
