Is the 15 year warranty on the whole system or just the battery?
The whole system. SAJ's Australian warranty for the EK90 HS5 gives the inverter and battery together 15 years as standard, starting from the day it is installed. The smart meter and accessories carry 2 years. SAJ also warrants the battery still holds at least 60 per cent of its capacity at 15 years, or until it has delivered 4.4 MWh for every kWh of usable capacity, whichever comes first.
What does 12,000 cycles actually mean?
One cycle is emptying the battery and filling it again. 12,000 is the cell maker's rating, tested at 25°C at a gentle half rate charge and discharge, until the cells are down to 60 per cent of their original capacity. It tells you the cells are built for a very long life. The warranty is what SAJ puts in writing for your home: 15 years, or 4.4 MWh of throughput for every kWh of usable capacity, whichever comes first.
How do I keep the full 15 years?
Keep the system connected to the internet so SAJ can monitor it and update its software, and have it registered with SAJ. We do the registration at commissioning. Without the internet connection or registration, SAJ only commits to 7.5 years. If your internet goes down for a month or more, let us know.
Will it keep the power on in a blackout?
It can. Whole home backup is built into the EK90 through a 63A bypass, so there is no separate backup gateway to buy, and it switches over in 10 milliseconds or less. Any circuit the battery backs up needs a Type A safety switch, so whole home backup usually means switchboard work. We check your board from clear photos and quote that separately, before anything is ordered.
Do I need a switchboard upgrade for a battery?
Not for the battery itself. A battery that stores your solar and cuts your bill does not need a new switchboard or new safety switches. It is backup power that brings in Type A safety switches, on the circuits being backed up. If your board has no spare space, that can mean a new enclosure, and we tell you up front.
Can I add more battery later?
Yes. The EK90 stacks 7 kWh or 9 kWh modules, one to six in a stack, up to 54 kWh. Each module has its own DC to DC optimiser, which SAJ designed so every module charges and discharges on its own and the stack can grow later. We size it to your evenings first, not the biggest stack a rebate allows.
Is it eligible for the federal battery rebate?
The rebate needs the battery on the Clean Energy Council approved list. We check the exact EK90 model against the list on the day we quote and apply the rebate in your written quote. The federal battery rebate steps down on 1 January 2027, so the value that applies is the one in force when your system is installed and commissioned.
I already have solar. Can I add an EK90?
Often, yes. The EK90 is an all in one hybrid, so its inverter runs the solar and the battery together. A single phase home can take 10 kW of total inverter capacity and a three phase home 30 kW, counting every inverter on the property, so sometimes your old solar inverter comes off the wall and your existing panels connect to the EK90. We work it out from photos of your current setup.
Who looks after it if something goes wrong?
We do. SAJ's warranty says to start any claim with the installer who sold you the system, so you call us, we diagnose it and we deal with SAJ. SAJ also has an Australian company, SAJ Digital Energy Australia, with a local support line. Our own installation work carries our lifetime workmanship warranty (conditions apply, see our Terms).
Where is it made?
SAJ (Guangzhou Sanjing Electric) designs and builds it in Guangzhou, China, and has been in business since 2005. Here in Australia it is backed by SAJ's own Australian company, SAJ Digital Energy Australia, on the product, and by us on the installation.
