The appliance store delivers the new oven, and then you discover the fine print: hardwired ovens and cooktops must be connected by a licensed electrician in Queensland, and an induction cooktop often draws more current than the old circuit was ever built for. That last part is the trap: a shiny induction cooktop connected to an undersized 1990s circuit trips breakers at Sunday roast scale, or worse, quietly overheats the cable in the wall. Oven installation and replacement
Wall ovens, underbench ovens and double ovens, connected to a correctly rated circuit with proper isolation. Replacing like for like is often quick, but we always verify the circuit really matches the new appliance's rating instead of assuming the old wiring will do.
Induction and ceramic cooktops
Induction is the big one: a large induction cooktop can demand its own 32 amp circuit, well beyond many existing kitchen circuits. We check what is behind your kitchen, run or upgrade the dedicated circuit when needed, and connect the cooktop to manufacturer spec so the warranty stands.
Gas to induction conversions
Going all-electric? We handle the electrical side of retiring gas cooking: the new dedicated circuit, switchboard protection and the cooktop connection. Paired with solar, induction cooking runs almost free at lunchtime, and plenty of Coast homes are making exactly this switch.
Rangehoods, dishwashers and the rest

Check This Before the Appliance Arrives
Five minutes of checking before delivery day saves the classic new-kitchen headache of an appliance that cannot be connected:
- The new appliance's electrical rating, in kW or amps, from the spec sheet
- Whether it plugs in or must be hardwired: hardwired means a licensed electrician in QLD
- What the old appliance was: swapping gas or a small ceramic for big induction usually means a new circuit
- The age of your switchboard: older boards may need a breaker or safety switch upgrade to add a circuit
- Delivery timing: book the electrical connection so the old appliance out and new one in happen together
- Whether the kitchen is part of a bigger renovation: one wiring plan beats piecemeal connections

Why induction trips old circuits
A gas cooktop uses no meaningful electricity and even older ceramic cooktops drew modest current, so many kitchens were wired accordingly. A modern induction cooktop with boost functions can pull double or triple that on full song. Connected to the old undersized circuit it nuisance-trips at the worst moments, and an overloaded cable that does not trip is a heat problem inside your wall. The fix is a dedicated, correctly sized circuit, which we quote up front after seeing your switchboard, not as a surprise on install day.
The certificate matters
Every hardwired appliance connection we do is tested and certified as Queensland requires. That paperwork is what stands behind you for the appliance warranty, your insurance and any future sale of the home. Can I connect a new oven or cooktop myself?
If it comes with a standard plug and an existing suitable socket, plugging it in is fine. But most ovens and nearly all cooktops are hardwired, and in Queensland hardwired connections are strictly licensed electrical work with heavy penalties for DIY. There is a practical reason behind the law: these are the highest-load appliances in the house, and an undersized or badly terminated connection is a genuine fire risk sitting behind your cabinetry.
The store offered installation. Why use you instead?
Sometimes store-arranged installation works out fine for a straight like-for-like swap. Where it falls over is the moment the job is not simple: the circuit is undersized for the new appliance, the switchboard needs a breaker or safety switch, or the old wiring fails testing. Store installers commonly walk away from those jobs, leaving you with a disconnected kitchen and a second booking anyway. We assess the whole picture first, quote it once and finish it once.
Do I need a new circuit for an induction cooktop?
Often, yes. Smaller induction units can sometimes run on a healthy existing cooktop circuit, but larger cooktops with boost functions commonly specify a 32 amp dedicated circuit, and kitchens wired for gas cooking may have no cooktop circuit at all. It depends entirely on the appliance's rating and what is actually in your wall and switchboard, which is exactly what the site inspection establishes before you are committed.
We are switching from gas cooking to induction. What is involved electrically?
A dedicated circuit from the switchboard to the cooktop position, correctly rated protection, and the connection itself, plus a switchboard tidy-up if the board is short on space or safety switches. Capping the gas line is a plumber's task and we coordinate timing so the kitchen is never out of action longer than necessary. If you have solar, induction is the natural partner: your panels are strongest exactly when lunch gets cooked.
Can you install the oven the same day it is delivered?
That is the goal, and the way to guarantee it is booking the site inspection before delivery. If the existing circuit checks out, the install after delivery is usually quick. If the circuit needs upgrading we can often do that ahead of time, so delivery day is just connect, test and cook. Booking us after the appliance is already sitting in the kitchen works too, it just risks a gap if the wiring needs work.
Do ovens and cooktops need their own safety switch?
New circuits in Queensland must be protected by a safety switch, and that includes new oven and cooktop circuits. Existing older circuits often predate the requirement, and while a straight appliance swap does not always force an upgrade, we will tell you plainly when your board is behind current protection standards.
