Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A or Cat7?
The cable category decides how fast and how far your network can run, and how much headroom you'll have as devices, cameras and access points get hungrier. Over-spec everything and you pay for cable you'll never use; under-spec it and you're re-cabling in a few years.
We recommend the right category per run, and where distance or bandwidth is beyond copper, we bring in fibre backbone. The result is a system matched to how you actually work, not a one-size-fits-all guess.
Cat5e

Do you do commercial and industrial cabling, not just homes?
Yes. Alongside home data points, we design and install full structured cabling systems for offices, fit-outs, retail, warehouses and industrial sites, including comms rooms, racks, cable tray and backbone. You deal directly with a licensed contractor, not a subbie chain.
Can you build or tidy up a comms room, server room or data rack?
Yes. We install wall-mount and floor-standing racks, patch panels, cable management and switching, and we re-terminate and re-organise messy existing rooms into a clean, labelled, cross-connected system your IT team can actually work on.
What's the difference between Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A and Cat7?
It's mostly speed and headroom. Cat5e handles Gigabit for voice and basic data; Cat6 is the sensible default for most new work; Cat6A carries full-distance 10-Gigabit and higher-power PoE for serious commercial use; Cat7 and fibre cover the most demanding, long or high-interference links. We recommend the right category for each run so you're not under- or over-spending.
Should I run copper or fibre?
Copper (Cat6/Cat6A) is ideal to the desk, camera or access point over normal distances. Fibre comes in for backbones between floors or buildings, long runs, or where you need bandwidth and distance beyond copper. Many sites use both, and we'll design the mix that suits yours.
Do you test and certify the cabling?
Yes. We test permanent links and record the results so you know each port performs to its category, rather than just assuming it works. That documentation is worth having for warranty, handover and future troubleshooting.
Can you find and fix a network point that keeps dropping out?
Yes. We trace, test and re-terminate faulty cabling and outlets, and sort out the intermittent drop-outs that come from poor terminations, damaged cable or an overloaded, tangled comms room.
Can you add extra data, TV or phone points to an existing home?
Yes. We run new Cat6 data points, TV and antenna outlets and phone points into existing rooms, threading cable through walls and ceilings where access allows and finishing each point neatly at the wall plate. We assess access on-site first so you know what's involved before any work starts.
Do you handle NBN cabling and getting my points working?
Yes, on the cabling side. We run the NBN lead-in and patch your data points back to the NBN connection box and router so your wired outlets work once the service is connected. The internet plan and service activation are arranged with your provider.
Are you registered to do telecommunications cabling?
Yes. Dan holds an ACMA Open Cabler Registration (registration no. A054843, via ACRS) as well as running a licensed Queensland electrical contracting business (Lic# 92489). Open is the broad registration category, covering customer cabling connected to the telecommunications network, including structured data, coaxial and fibre. So your data and comms work is done legally and to the ACMA Cabling Provider Rules, not by an unregistered handyman. It matters for compliance, insurance and NBN, and it's a step many operators skip.
